ABORTION TUTORIALS

The campaign was directed at the Chilean political scene, intended to support the Therapeutic Abortion Bill that is currently being discussed in Congress. The idea of the campaign is to generate a debate to put pressure on the politicians so that the law is approved.

The day the campaign was launched, a press dossier which explained the distinct differences between an illegal and a therapeutic abortion was given to the congressmen as they discussed the law with the Abortion Tutorials, as well as the several media platforms covering the event. The campaign generated public debate, calling the attention of several mass media platforms, politicians, the church, doctors and the rest of the world.

We generated public debate in mass communication platforms, the church, and politicians, causing controversy and bringing the topic to the general public, locally and internationally.

Chile is one of the few countries in the world where abortion is still criminalized in all its forms, due to the policies inherited from Chile’s military regimen era.

The current law does not distinguish between the types of abortion, as they’re all considered a crime. There are however extreme cases that must be revised by the law and amended, that is: health concerns and the risk of the mother’s life, non-viable fetus cases and pregnancies due to rapes.

No even taking into account the 71% of Chileans who approve of the legalization of the Therapeutic Abortion bill.
